Furnishing Your Doctor’s Office

Posted on: November 19, 2015

If you are in charge of furnishing a doctor’s office, chances are you want the room to be inviting for your patients. Many things go into creating an inviting office such as paint color, wall décor, seating, and more. When you are thinking about what kind of vibe you want your medical office to give, keep these simple tips in mind.

Dos and Don’ts for Furnishing a Doctor’s Office

Do: Keep your clientele in mind. If you own a pediatric office, keep the wall color and décor fun and inviting for children.

Don’t: Make every room the exact same. Even if your clients are mostly adults, keep the room interesting and fun to keep your guests calm and comfortable.

Do: Hang up wall décor that is relevant to your practice. For example a gynecology office may have images of babies or families.

Don’t: Hang up wall décor that may scare the patient. For example, a cancer facility would not want graphic images of lung cancer.

Do: Keep your practice in mind. If you need seating for a behavioral health office, keep the seating comfortable and relaxing.

Don’t: Assume the more expensive furniture is, the more comfortable it is. The best way to see if furniture is comfortable is to try it out yourself.

Do: Decorate the waiting area and provide your guests with comfortable seating as well as tables.

Don’t: Choose mismatching chairs for your waiting area that gives off a sketchy vibe.

Do: Think about your patient’s guests by furnishing the exam room with a few comfortable chairs.

Don’t: Only put one chair in the room for the patient.

Do: Talk to an interior design expert to help in planning your doctor’s office.

Don’t: Try to coordinate furniture pieces together if you are unsure if it will look okay.

Do: Purchase furniture that is easy to clean and meant for healthcare facilities.

Don’t: Purchase seating that could easily get stained or trap bacteria.
